Brooklyn Eviction Defense

Brooklyn Eviction Defense (BED-TU) is a borough-wide tenant union combatting disrepair, rising rent & threats of displacement with collective bargaining and direct action.

BED is Back

Almost a year ago, BED announced that we were pausing our external operations to focus on an internal restructuring process, with the goal of developing a cohesive organizing strategy rooted in community relationships. We are happy to announce that this process was completed and ratified at our General Assembly on February 21st, and BED is ready to resume public operations and onboard new members.

Whether you are new to BED or have been involved in the past, the biggest change is that union organizing practice is now centered on what’s called a local. A local is a group of organized tenants and community members in a particular geographic region. Currently there is an established North Brooklyn local, plus developing local organizing efforts in Flatbush, Bay Ridge, and Brownsville. To get involved with BED, come to the next local meeting in your area to learn about the organizing happening in your community!

You can find information on your nearest local meeting on the BED calendar on our website. The calendar will also tell you about the next public orientation session. The orientation is where you’ll learn about BED’s mission, strategy, and the structures and working groups in place to support our organizing practice.

As a BED member the local is your organizing home in the union, and your main point of contact for getting involved in union activities.

We look forward to building with you!
